FORT THOMAS, Ky. —

In the late 1990s, Jared Lorenzen was a walking highlight reel for the Highlands football team in Fort Thomas, Kentucky.

As a senior, he accounted for over 4,000 yards of offense, 60 touchdowns, a perfect 15-0 record, and a state championship. Advertisement

From there, Kentucky's 1998 Mr. Football went to the University of Kentucky, where he set numerous program records.

Lorenzen quickly became a national sensation. His bigger frame earned him the nickname "Hefty Lefty."

After four years in the NFL and a couple more in arena football, Jared retired in 2013.

Post-playing life was hard, with the scale reading over 500 pounds. In 2019, Jared Lorenzen died at due to an infection in his heart and kidneys.
