As residents begin to return to their homes following the Sunset Fire evacuations, Sheriff Daryl Wheeler emphasized several safety measures remain in place.

The forest remains closed to the public to prevent disruption to firefighters working in the area.

Burning restrictions are also in effect.

Fire Chief Armstrong has ordered that "all open burning" in fire-affected areas must be extinguished, including campfires, outdoor burning of yard waste, open flame devices and charcoal fires.

Checkpoints will continue to be manned by law enforcement to limit access to non-residents in previously evacuated areas.
