The Washington Commanders and cornerstone wide receiver Terry McLaurin agreed on a three-year contract extension Monday, a person familiar with the situation said, ending months of contentious negotiations less than two weeks before the most anticipated Washington football season in decades.

McLaurin’s extension is worth $96 million with the chance to increase, another person familiar with the situation said, making him one of the highest-paid wideouts in the NFL. McLaurin will take the field without qualification when the Commanders host the New York Giants in their Sept. 7 opener, ensuring quarterback Jayden Daniels will have his favorite target at his disposal.
