Interstate 70 and U.S. Hwy 40 is closed in both directions Wednesday morning due to a semi-truck that spilled hazardous materials onto the roadway. Preliminary reports did show that the CMV is leaking hydrochloric acid.

Hazmat crews are responding to the scene between the Morrison and Lookout Mountain exits, according to a social media post from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

The closures includes Interstate 70 at milepost 258 and Highway 40 from milepost 283 to milepost 285.

Officials are saying the roads will be closed between three to four hours as crews clean up the scene, according to the post. Colorado State Patrol has taken over as the lead agency in the response.
