At the height of a controversial budget season, local organizations Engage Miami and Miami Homes for All’s Youth Voice Action Collection (YVAC) is mobilizing younger residents and empowering them to speak up and shape policy decisions.

Friday marked the groups’ second annual Civic Literacy Workshop, held at United Way Miami in partnership with Women with Broken Heals . In 2024, the group’s inaugural event focused on closing the gap in civic education.

Amy Morales, Engage Miami’s director of advocacy and policy, has long advocated for the civil education of South Florida residents and finds it imperative that they be aware of their power.
