GARY — Residents and activists expressed concerns about steel mill emissions at an Air Pollution Control Advisory Meeting in Gary Tuesday.
Gary Health Commissioner Dr. Janet Seabrook said the city faced a public health crisis with steel mill pollution and looming cuts to Medicaid that would affect Gary residents.
"When they cut that coverage, we're going to see more people going to emergency rooms," she said. "It's not continuous care. It's interrupted care. These Medicaid cuts will impact citizens with chronic disorders that are being caused by or impacted by pollutants that are in our environment."
