When Shondra Summers-Armstrong moved to Las Vegas with her family 26 years ago, well before she ever became a city councilwoman, the corner lot at West Jefferson Avenue and North C Street housed a small neighborhood school.
Years later, after the building was demolished, the empty dirt lot became a stark reminder of unrealized potential in Las Vegas’ Historic Westside.
That potential became reality through the determined efforts of former City Councilman Cedric Crear, who championed the transformation of the vacant site into a workforce training center during his term in office.
On Wednesday morning, local and state leaders from government and education came together for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially opening the new Historic Westside Education and Training Center.
