Scots have seen a scorcher of a summer, with heatwaves and searing temperatures over the past three months. In fact, this year has "almost certainly" been the hottest summer on record, according to the Met Office.
But the weather agency's latest update is less positive, and it sends a stark message about global warming and the extremes of our changing climate. We can kiss the sunshine and blue skies goodbye, as this weekend is to be a complete wash-out for the entire country.
And as we enter September next week , meteorological autumn will officially begin , bringing much more unsettled weather with it. The Met Office has warned that we may even see "strong winds, thunderstorms and hail" in the coming days.
