Former England boss Gareth Southgate and Manchester United great Michael Carrick are the favourites to replace Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

On another humiliating night for the club, United crashed out of the Carabao Cup at the second-round stage after they were beaten on penalties by League Two outfit Grimsby Town.

While the new season is less than two weeks old, Amorim already finds himself under mounting pressure having taken just one point from their opening two Premier League matches.
