Prince George’s County man forgets ticket then wins $1 million in Powerball Double Play

Landover, MD – A retired Prince George’s County man turned forgetfulness into fortune after unknowingly buying the same Powerball Double Play numbers twice and winning a combined $1 million.

The man, who used the nickname Proud Granddad, bought a ticket on August 18 to cover three drawings with the Double Play option. That ticket matched five numbers in the August 20 Double Play drawing, earning $500,000.

When he returned from an out-of-state trip, he discovered he had already purchased the same numbers on August 12 with the Double Play add-on. That second ticket also won $500,000, bringing his total winnings to $1 million.
