Ford Motor is recalling 52,547 vehicles in Canada and nearly 500,000 vehicles in the U.S over a brake fluid leak issue, the company confirmed on Thursday.
A ruptured hose in the brake system might cause fluid to leak, lengthening stopping distances, which increases the risk of a crash, according to a report by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"Drivers may receive a warning through a change in brake pedal feel or travel and the illumination of a red brake fluid warning indicator light if the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir reaches a specified level," a company spokesperson wrote in an email to CBC News.
Ford said it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries linked to the issue.
