ALLEN PARK -- Ahmed Hassanein was waived with an injury settlement when the Detroit Lions announced their initial roster. It was a move that created a ton of questions about the rookie’s future.

However, Hassanein passed through waivers unclaimed on Wednesday and is now a free agent. Despite that, Lions general manager Brad Holmes is confident his sixth-round edge defender will be back in Detroit and on the football field this season.
