The Akron Zoo's white-cheeked gibbon baby has a name.
And it was dad Milo who picked it out.
The field of five potential names − Leuco, Kien, Coda, Rain and Khai − were narrowed down to just two and it was up to the zoo's gibbon family to pick just one.
Zookeepers placed tasty treats around two colorful boxes with the names Coda or Leuco on the inside of their enclosure the morning of Aug. 28 and the first one touched by one of the gibbons was the winner.
By Milo's choice it was Leuco − pronounced Loo-koh − derived from the white-cheeked gibbons scientific name Nomascus leucogenys.
The naming event was not without some drama and an unexpected twist.
Spokesperson Elena Bell said some of the zoo's free roaming resident chipmunks helped themselves to the treats − celery, sweet potatoe
