Sudbury is set to become a hub for housing innovation in Northern Ontario, thanks to a new initiative led by Laurentian University.

On Thursday, Sudbury MP Viviane Lapointe announced $450,000 in FedNor funding to establish the Institute for Northern Housing Innovation at the McEwen School of Architecture , located in downtown Sudbury.

Speaking on behalf of federal Jobs and Families Minister Patty Hajdu, Lapointe said the institute will play a key role in addressing housing affordability and accessibility across the region.

“Today’s announcement will help pave the way for the construction of more affordable housing in Greater Sudbury and communities across Northern Ontario,” Lapointe said. “Our goal is to ensure Canadians have access to housing that meets their need
