ROCKFORD (WREX) — A Rockford man has learned his fate after pleading guilty to charges of robbery, stealing a car, and battery.

28-year-old Raykevon Newton plead guilty in a Rockford courtroom Thursday morning to charges of Armed Robbery, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and Aggravated Battery.

As a part of the plea deal, Judge Brendan Maher sentenced Newton to concurrent, or simultaneous, prison terms of 16 years for robbery, 14 years for stealing a car, and 14 years for battery. Newton will have to serve at least half of the time, or eight years, plus 18 months of Mandatory Supervised Release once he is released from prison.

The charges stem from a series of incidents in Rockford on Aug. 17, 2024, according to the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office.
