The National Safety Council (NSC) has estimated that hundreds of people may die in preventable traffic crashes during the Labor Day holiday period, warning motorists and pedestrians to take extra care.
The Labor Day weekend, from Friday night through Monday, poses a significant threat to the safety of drivers, passengers, pedestrians and cyclists, the NSC said. The council predicted that as many as 424 could be killed in traffic crashes over the long weekend as a result.

The council has also warned about the risk of Americans driving under the influence of alcohol, as holidays often include
