SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday announced he's deploying teams of California Highway Patrol officers to major cities across California to crack down on crime.
The teams of CHP officers will head to San Diego, Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Central Valley, Sacramento, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The governor's office said the officers will work collaboratively with local law enforcement in those areas.
The announcement comes as President Donald Trump considers sending the National Guard to cities across the country to combat crime.
