UPPER EAST SIDE — Manhattan resident Fleur Sohtz, 47, is preparing to swim the English Channel on Aug. 29, aiming to become the first cityborn woman to complete open water swimming’s “Triple Crown,” the New York Post reports . Sohtz, originally from Brooklyn, has already swum the Catalina Channel in California and the 28.5-mile loop around Manhattan.

The English Channel leg could stretch up to 26 miles with currents and could take up to 16 hours. Sohtz, a software company chief marketing officer, has raised more than $23,000 for Asphalt Green’s swim programs and hopes her feat inspires city kids.

Only 366 people worldwide have completed all three challenge swims, fewer than half of them women.
