WESTFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - A water pipe break at one local high school gave students a few extra days of summer vacation. Officials with St. Mary’s High School in Westfield told us they first found out about the water main break around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and the burst caused the elementary school building to lose power for the day as well.

“It was a big surprise because I had my whole day planned with work and everything, so it was an adjustment,” said St. Mary’s parent Rachel Burke

Students that attend St. Mary’s High School and Elementary School were granted some extra summer vacation due to a water main break in the high school basement. However, that extra day off didn’t apply to St. Mary’s High School Principal Matthew Collins, who spent Thursday afternoon helping move items out
