Gaithersburg shopper scores $50K Powerball prize as jackpot climbs to $950 million

GAITHERSBURG, MD – A quick stop at a Safeway in Montgomery County turned into a $50,000 payday for one lucky Powerball player, just as the national jackpot surged toward nearly $1 billion ahead of Saturday’s drawing.

The winning ticket was sold at the Safeway located at 20211 Goshen Road in Gaithersburg and matched four white balls plus the red Powerball in Wednesday night’s drawing. The numbers for the August 27 draw were 9, 12, 22, 41, 61 and Powerball 25.

While no one matched all six numbers to win the top prize, the Gaithersburg winner became one of several players across the country to walk away with a third-tier win of $50,000.
