An alert about a harmful algae bloom has been issued for Lake Omaha in Fulton County, the second advisory issued in as many days.
The Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment's Division of Environmental Quality issued a similar alert for a Lake Desoto in Garland and Saline counties.
The agencies said the presence of cynobacteria -- the organism that makes up the algae bloom -- had been confirmed in both bodies of water, visually and through testing.
The blooms may produce a toxic substance, which could result in headaches, shortness of breath and gastrointestinal illness.
The division says, if animals are exposed to the blooms, they can be cleaned with tap water.
