ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The Chesterfield Police Department said Thursday prosecutors have charged a man after hitting a child getting off the school bus and driving away.

The department said Dante Devito seriously injured a 9-year-old after improperly passing a school bus on Schoettler Road Wednesday afternoon. Police said Devito immediately drove away.

Police said Devito was pulled over by officers a short time later and at that traffic stop police said they determined Devito was high on drugs.

He now faces two felony charges, driving while intoxicated causing serious physical injury and leaving the scene of an accident.

Devito was taken to the St. Louis County Jail and given a $250,000 bond.
