WOODSTOCK — After calling 184,530 races at 164 locations, including 60 international races, Roger Huston, 83, continues to work nonstop, driven by his passion for harness racing.
“He’s an icon,” said Shenandoah Downs operation manager Darrell Wood. “He’s called more races than any other race caller in history. This is his eighth or ninth straight time at the county fair. He comes here because he loves it. He can call races all over the world, but Shenandoah remains in his top two/three favorite spots.”
Sitting below the Grandstand at the fairgrounds in Woodstock on Wednesday before the first race began at noon, Huston said he plans to continue announcing as long as he’s able.
