FORMER New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is putting his baseball days behind him.
Teixeira is trading his baseball knowledge for politics as he makes a run for Congress.
On Thursday, the former slugger announced he will run for Congress in his home state of Texas.
"As a lifelong conservative who loves this country, I’m running for Congress to fight for the principles that make Texas and America great," Teixeira said in his announcement on X.
"It takes teamwork to win – I’m ready to help defend President Trump’s America First agenda, Texas families, and individual liberty."
Teixeira is 45 years old and will run in Texas' 21st District, located north of San Antonio.
