EAST LANSING — At least two elected officials have concerns about the lack of transparency from the East Lansing Police Department and city officials following complaints of excessive force by police officers .
Nadia Sellers, CEO of an Okemos nonprofit committed to youth empowerment, equity and community safety, publicly complained after she said East Lansing officers used "excessive force" in dealing with a group of college-age Black men during the weekend of Aug. 23-24 in the city’s downtown. She asked Police Chief Jennifer Brown for a meeting to discuss fights, large crowds and safety issues, and has called for investigations.
