EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A 23-year-old news story that's become a Rhode Island cult classic is still gaining attention.

Boston Globe Reporter Ed Fitzpatrick had former 12 News reporter Sean Daly on the "Rhode Island Report" podcast to talk about a story he did in 2002 dubbed "Mother, Mother Ocean." The story, which has garnered nearly 300,000 views on YouTube, looks into reports that an "unknown, scary creature" was seen in the water off the Portsmouth coast.

T-shirts and posters featuring images from the story are being sold by Frog & Toad.

Fitzpatrick joined 12 News at 4 Thursday to talk more about his discussion with Daly.
