LSU is "waiting for clarification" on whether senior safety A.J. Haulcy will be eligible to play in the first half of Saturday's season opener against Clemson, coach Brian Kelly said Thursday.

Haulcy was involved in a fight and ejected during his final game at Houston last season. In the Cougars' last game against BYU, Haulcy fought with BYU wide receiver Darius Lassiter during the game's final minutes.

Kelly believes that LSU will receive further clarity on Haulcy's situation soon.

"We were informed on his situation on Wednesday, so we'll see where that ends up," Kelly said. "We're practicing him, preparing to play him, and we'll wait for further guidance."

NCAA rules stipulate that Haulcy would be suspended for the first half of his next game if he had been officially ejected
