A First Student school bus collided into a guardrail near Shiloh and Neibauer roads Wednesday afternoon before veering off the road and striking a cottonwood tree.

The crash led to one of the four students on the bus being transported to the hospital.

The bus driver told emergency crews the crash likely resulted from a mechanical failure that led the vehicle to veer into the guardrail, said Billings Fire Department Battalion Chief Darrek Mitchell.

The students were with Yellowstone Boys and Girl Ranch, and were released to their respective guardians after the crash. The one student who was transported to the hospital had minor injuries. The bus driver and an adult aide also on the bus were not injured in the crash.
