The City of Melbourne has issued a boil water notice for all its water customers after E. coli bacteria were detected in a routine sample on Thursday.

The notice affects approximately 167,000 people, including residents in Indialantic, Indian Harbour Beach, Melbourne, Melbourne Beach, Melbourne Village, Palm Shores, Satellite Beach, and unincorporated Brevard County south of Pineda Causeway. West Melbourne, a wholesale customer of Melbourne, is also impacted.
City officials said the boil water notice was issued out of an abundance of caution.
Residents are advised to boil tap water before consuming it or use bottled water until bacteriological testing
