A jury in Benton County has convicted a man of attempted murder for shooting five law enforcement officers in October of 2023.
After a nine-day trial, the jury convicted 66-year-old Karl Holmberg of seven counts of attempted murder of a police officer, as well as assault and drug possession.
He was accused of firing at officers as they attempted to serve a search warrant at his rural home near Princeton, Minn.
All five officers survived their injuries. Negotiators eventually convinced Holmberg to come outside and took him into custody.
His wife told police her husband began shooting blindly through the closed bedroom door, and said it was “his day to die.”
A judge ordered Holmberg to undergo a psychological exam, and he was found competent to stand trial.
