On Tuesday, Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife staff killed an adult female non-breeding wolf from the Sherman pack. This comes after the recent lethal removal authorization by Department Director Kelly Susewind.
The wolf was removed because of repeated depredations on cattle in Ferry County, resulting in three dead and two injured calves belonging to a single producer this month alone. WDFW reported the depredations on August 18th, and 21st.
The WDFW evaluation period is now underway. The Department said Susewind ’s authorization was consistent with the guidance of the state's Wolf Conservation and Management Plan and the lethal removal provisions of the Department's Wolf-Livestock Interaction Protocol .
