SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. –A campground in Summersville is set to be temporarily closed for three weeks for the beginning of Gauley Season.

The National Park Service announced that the Tailwaters Campground in Gauley River National Recreation Area, which is located below Summersville Dam on the upper Gauley, will be closed beginning Tuesday, September 2. The park is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, September 23.

According to park services, the closure will allow for better and easier access to the upper Gauley during this time, especially for use by both private boaters and commercial rafting companies. It also opens up a 50 additional parking sites for boaters, allows for better assistance with traffic flow, congestion, and over ease of the site.
