ARKANSAS (KNWA/KFTA) — The Arkansas Division of Correction (ADC) has announced it will implement a new digital mail system beginning Sept. 15 in an effort to reduce contraband and increase security across state prisons.

Under the new system, all non-legal inmate mail must be sent to a centralized processing center in Tampa, Florida, where it will be scanned and delivered electronically to tablets used by incarcerated individuals. Mail sent to the digital processing center must follow a specific format, including the inmate’s name. Both the envelope and its contents will be scanned in color, preserving handwriting, drawings and other details.
