Alabama State football opens its season against FBS opponent UAB (7:30 p.m. CT, ESPN+) Thursday at Protective Stadium in Birmingham.
The trip to Protective Stadium will be the first for Alabama State while it will also search for its first win against an FBS opponent in its school history. The last time Alabama State faced an FBS opponent was in 2022 when it lost 45-7 against UCLA in Los Angeles, California.
Alabama State currently holds a 2-2 record against UAB with its last win over the Blazers in 1995.
UAB joined the FBS as an independent school in 1996 and joined the American Athletic Conference in 2023. Since joining the FBS, the Blazers have won consecutive games against Alabama State.
