Jermaine Mathews, a carpenter and father of three, appeared in federal court on Thursday for a detention hearing related to a drug case separate from a viral downtown brawl that happened in downtown Cincinnati in late July.

Mathews is accused of conspiring to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and dealing drugs on Kenton Street in the Walnut Hills area. Advertisement

Prosecutor Anthony Springer argued that Mathews should remain in custody, presenting 13 photos from the downtown brawl that allegedly show Mathews, wearing a red shirt, stomping on Alex Tchervinski despite attempts by others to pull Mathews away. Springer described Mathews as a danger to public safety and a flight risk.
