A woman is in serious condition today after being struck by a car while crossing a Kakaako intersection in her mobility scooter, according to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.

EMS responded to the scene at Queen and South streets at 12:30 p.m. today.

Paramedics treated the woman, estimated to be in her 50s, for multiple abrasions and took her to an emergency room in serious condition.

No further details were available.

The Honolulu Police Department recently launched a “Safer Roads, Together” campaign, urging people to slow down and “drive with aloha” in an effort to reduce road fatalities.

Police launched the campaign in response to the skyrocketing number of traffic fatalities on Oahu — 55 so far this year – more than double the 26 reported at the same time last year.
