BUFFALO, N.Y. — The redevelopment of Buffalo's Commodore Perry homes is moving ahead.

The Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority held a lottery this week to create a wait list for 121 new apartments and townhouses that are now under construction. More than 700 people applied, and nearly 2,800 more are seeking one of the 284 subsidized units.

The $254 million project will create more than 400 new homes with rents based on income.

The first phase is expected to be complete in early 2026, with tenants moving in as units are finished.
