GENEVA, N.Y. (WROC) — The nearly 50 low-income families who call Geneva Gardens Apartments home are now being forced to relocate after the complex was bought by its neighbor, Hobart and William Smith Colleges (HWS). Officials with the colleges plan to convert the complex into student housing.

According to Ontario County records, the new deed was issued to HWS on July 11th in a nearly $8-million sale. A spokesperson for HWS explained that the previous owners of Geneva Gardens will continue to manage the property until June 2026, which is when they anticipate the complex will be completely vacant.

Selena McKoy has lived in the Gardens for more than two years and said she was shocked when she saw the notice in her mailbox just over a month ago.
