BURIEN, Wash. — In a motorcade of dozens of law enforcement vehicles, 16 children from across western Washington arrived at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) in Burien on Thursday.
They were welcomed as honorary police chiefs and sheriffs as part of the “Chief for a Day” celebration. This is the first time since 2018 the event has been held. Before the pandemic, it was held every two years.
The children were greeted with officers saluting them and crowds applauding them.
The event is held to honor the strength and resilience of children diagnosed with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. Each child representing their hometown law enforcement agency was given a custom-made uniform and was formally sworn in during a ceremony attended by officers, familie
