SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam they said is impersonating their own department and threatening people with legal action if payments aren’t made for alleged warrants or other legal issues.

Sheriff David Thoroughman said the number that is provided -- 740-351-8212 -- is not an actual Sheriff’s Office number, despite a message that it is the Sheriff’s Office and even gives options to choose from. He also emphasized that his agency would never call to ask for money for fines to prevent warrants or other legal action being filed against someone.
