CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Miss America competition starts next week in Orlando, Florida. Miss Illinois joined ABC7 Chicago Thursday to talk more about it.

Nitsaniyah Fitch was crowned this summer, and is using her platform to empower young girls across Chicago and Illinois.

Fitch talked about what wisdom she hopes to teach young girls, how she's feeling about the competition, favorite moments from the experience and what she's most looking forward to.

She said she also seeks to create impact within the nonprofit sector, especially related to environmental advocacy and corporate social responsibility.

She is multi-lingual and describes herself as having international exposure.
