The Iowa football team saw its injury luck run out on Thursday.

According to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz and David Eickholt , the Hawkeyes will be without wide receiver Reece Vander Zee to start the 2025 season.

The report states Vander Zee sustained a foot injury and is expected to miss the first month of the season.

The former three-star prospect out of Central Lyon appeared in nine games in 2024, including eight starts, and caught 14 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns.

Iowa will look for Chattanooga transfer wide receiver Sam Phillips, who was named a starter over Vander Zee on Monday, to fill the sophomore’s role early in the season.
