COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (KCRG) - A man who shot at law enforcement was killed in an officer-involved shooting in western Iowa on Wednesday.

At approximately 5:35 p.m. Wednesday, an Iowa state trooper conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Interstate 29.

Police say that the driver, later identified as 48-year-old Michael Broyles, of Battlefield, Missouri, showed a gun and then fled in his vehicle.

He led the Iowa State Patrol, the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Council Bluffs Police Department on a short chase.

Broyles then exited his vehicle with a gun and began firing at the responding officers. Officers returned fire and shot Broyles.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
