LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles City Council is considering whether to support a bill that would ban surveillance drones.
The bill was introduced after the Department of Homeland Security deployed a drone over the city during recent protests against immigration raids. Rep. Jimmy Gomez, D-Los Angeles, introduced the legislation.
The legislation would prohibit federal agencies from using military drones for surveillance of people protesting.
It would also require the president to report any drone use to Congress.
City Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez introduced a resolution Wednesday in support of the legislation.
If approved by the City Council, the resolution would be added the city's 2025-26 federal legislative program - formally establishing Los Angeles' support for the bill k
