WALTON, Ky. —

Two Boone County deputies remain hospitalized after being shot in Walton, Kentucky, on Thursday night, the Boone County Sheriff's Office said.

It happened at Towne Creek Crossing Apartments on Service Road, behind a Kroger. Police were first called to the scene around 10 p.m. Thursday.

The sheriff's office said that the two deputies are both stable and on a pathway to be discharged from the hospital within the coming days. One of the officers was shot in the chest and the other was shot in the leg.

The deputies were called to the scene initially to serve an arrest warrant, before the suspect opened fire.
