( 25News Now ) - In an early-season volleyball matchup featuring two potential playoff contenders, Morton dug out the home-court win over Normal West.

Another Mid-Illini/Big 12 matchup had the Washington Panthers outlasting Bloomington in three sets. Last year’s 2A state runner-up Bloomington Central Catholic won a small-school three-set thriller over Tri-Valley.

Even after moving up from Class 2A to 3A in soccer this past offseason, Peoria Notre Dame showed no signs of slowing down as the Irish came back down two goals, to win 3-2 over Glenwood.

Also in soccer, Morton opened the Zach Statham era with a hard-fought win over Normal U-High; they’ll host the Irish on Saturday morning. Bloomington also stays undefeated in their first week of action.
