What an introduction for Darian Mensah to Duke football.

The redshirt sophomore Tulane transfer threw for 389 and three touchdowns in his Blue Devils quarterback debut, completing 79% of his passes to lead Duke to a 45-17 victory over Elon on Thursday night at Wallace Wade Stadium.

But it wasn't always smooth for Mensah and the Blue Devils. Duke stumbled through the opening half, missing a field goal on its opening possession followed by a dropped touchdown pass and a fumble in the red zone. By halftime, the game was tied 10-10 in what coach Manny Diaz called a "nervy start."
