Belvidere head coach Jordon Schreffler can testify to the validity of the old proverb after seeing a living example of it coming true in Thursday night’s thrilling 23-20 independent defeat of local rival Hackettstown in front of an impressive crowd at the County Seaters’ Domenick Colangelo Stadium in the season opener for both teams.

Belvidere triumphed when senior kicker Pedro Isaque dos Santos absolutely hammered a 32-yard field goal through the uprights with 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter to break a tie forged by a determined second-half Tiger comeback.

“We just practiced end-of-game, game-winning field goal (Wednesday) in practice,”
