NESTUCCA VALLEY, Ore. ( KPTV /Gray News) - An Oregon high school football coach was saved by his players after suffering a heart attack during practice.
The Nestucca Valley High School’s football team was just beginning its first practice of the summer in June. Head coach Mike Ward and assistant football coach Frank Elsasser were the two new coaches on the field that day.
Elsasser was setting up a play for quarterback Brady Hurliman and other players following dynamic warmups when he noticed something seemed to be wrong.
“I was just starting to set up the offense and explain the positions,” Elsasser said. “Then, I said, ‘Oh, coach is a little lightheaded,’ and then I went down on the turf.”
Hurliman, who had only met the coach once before, wasn’t sure what was happening at first.
