Coco Gauff battled serve issues en route to a 7-6(5), 6-2 win over Donna Vekic in the third round of the US Open. After she was broken in the ninth game of the first set because of a double fault, the American ace, at the changeover, buried her face into the towel and wept.

It’s because of her serve issues, Gauff has hired biomechanist Gavin MacMillan , who also helped World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka fix her serve problems. It was a sudden decision she made after committing 16 double faults against eventual runner-up Jasmine Paolini in the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Masters. She clearly hasn’t mastered the serve, as during the first set itself, she ended up committing seven of her eight double faults in the first set.
